How to Exfoliate Your Face Correctly with Exfoliator for Dry&Sensitive Skin

best exfoliator for your skinExfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outermost surface, exposing fresh cells. Exfoliation makes the skin look and feel fresher and helps make skin treatments more effective. It also helps de-clog the pores of dirt and debris, preventing infections and acne.

However, care must be given depending on skin type as too much exfoliation can damage the skin. Using the proper method and getting the proper exfoliator for dry sensitive skin, for example, is a must. The use of a mild chemical exfoliator is recommended for dry, sensitive and acne-prone skin, as the mechanical method (scrubbing) might be too irritating.

Here’s How to exfoliate your face correctly with exfoliator for dry sensitive skin. This could also apply to other skin types.

  • 1. Determine your skin type, as this will determine the exfoliating method and the exfoliator/s to be used.

  • 2. Purchase the right product.The exfoliator for dry sensitive skin should contain little or no glycolic acid as it is too strong. For oily skin, it’s recommended to use a product that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Glycolic acid content should not be above 10% and salicylic acid should have less than 2%. Also, for dry, sensitive skin, the product should be labeled as such and check if it contains smooth exfoliating beads.

  • 3. Get the right tools. An electric exfoliating brush could be handy. Be sure to have one that uses sonic frequency for less contact but provides more effective cleansing. Also prepare a headband if you have bangs and a hair tie for long hair to keep your hair away from your face.

  • 4. Now to business. Pull your hair back using a towel, a hair tie, hair net, and headband. Prepare some hot water and a washcloth soak the washcloth in the hot water. Squeeze and then apply on your face. The water shouldn’t be too hot that it’s scalding. Keep the towel on your face for two minutes in order to open the pores. Or, you can also take a hot shower for several minutes, then pull your hair back for the next step.

  • 5. Wash your face using your usual face wash. No need to scrub your face too hard. Just gently clean your face and rinse. No need to dry yet.

  • 6. Apply your exfoliator on your clean wet skin. You can use your fingers or use another warm, wet washcloth. Or, you can also use an electric exfoliating brush with 30-seconds short, light strokes. Apply the exfoliator in gentle circular motions.

  • 7. Rinse the exfoliator from your face using lukewarm water. Make sure all the scrub is gone. After rinsing, wash your face with cold water to close the pores.

  • 8. Pat your face dry with a soft, clean towel. Don’t rub the towel on your face to avoid irritation.

Lastly, apply some moisturizer and some sunscreen if you’re going out. The sun will quickly harm your newly-exfoliated skin. Limit your exfoliating sessions to just one or two times a week to prevent damage.
